HIV & AIDS Prevention and Community Response
SITUATIONAL CONTEXT
Mozambique has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in Southern Africa. According to INSIDA 2021, 12.5% of people aged 15+ live with HIV, with women and girls disproportionately affected (15.0% vs. 9.5% among men and boys). Adolescent girls and young women face disproportionate HIV risk shaped by gender inequality, economic dependence, and unequal access to protection.
GAZA PROVINCE
In Gaza Province, where NGUNI works extensively, HIV prevalence remains among the highest in the country (20.3%). Women are especially affected, with more than one in four living with HIV (27.1%).
MAPUTO PROVINCE
