Water Initiative

Access to safe and affordable water in Maciene-sede remains limited and costly. Only two private providers serve a small portion of households, leaving most families to face daily challenges in securing clean water—challenges that directly affect health, time, and overall well-being.

In response, NGUNI became the first organization to provide community-based access to clean water by opening a borehole in Mabumwine, where its Community Development Center is located.

NGUNI adopted an integrated model that links access to water with participation in its HIV/AIDS prevention and preventive health Rodas de Conversa—short, weekly 15-minute dialogue sessions focused on health, hygiene, and family well-being.

To date, 23 households rely on the Mabumwine borehole as their primary water source. Through this approach, families not only gain access to safe water but are gradually and meaningfully engaged in NGUNI’s broader community health and development initiatives in Maciene.

When water is life, access to it means everything.
